In 2009, Marysville, a small town in Victoria, was devastated by the Black Saturday bushfires. A group of Year 10 students from Redeemer Baptist School wanted to help after hearing that the Equip, Serve and Assist (ESA) group needed to replace canoes and other camping equipment for its outdoor adventure program.
The Year 10 students ran the School's annual Gala Day which raised $13 000. The school was then able to purchase $30 000 of camping equipment to give to the ESA campsite.
The students travelled to Marysville to donate the camping equipment and also ran a fun evening in Taggerty Town Hall. The evening involved games, live music, painting and was finished with a bush dance.
